Shalom Sunday school for children uses activities, art, activities, and music to help kids learn and experience Jewish culture. Teachers are professional educators employed by SJC. For a detailed description of the Shalom Sunday classes and program, see The Shalom Sunday Handbook.
If you are curious, visitors are welcome. See below for this year’s Shalom Sunday schedule.
As part of the Shalom Sunday, families may choose to participate in the B’nai Mitzvah program. The B’nai Mitzvah program prepares youth for their (optional) Bat/Bar Mitzvah ceremony. Topics focus on Jewish history, identity, values, customs, and current social issues. The two year program uses community action projects, field trips, and academic study to prepare youth to be valued community members.
Shalom Sunday programs meet twice a month on Sunday at the Mercer Island Jewish Community Center (JCC). Classes begin at 9:30 am and end at 11:30 pm. We end with a community gathering in the activity room promptly at 11:30 am with parents and siblings. Programs run September through May.
